20 Questions With Robin Leigh Morgan

Q1) When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I had written non-fiction commentaries for a community newspaper for several years and along the way I decided to see if I could venture into writing fiction. This eventually led me to writing something in the romance genre. With all the sub-genres that exist in romance I chose to write an adult-contemporary romance. But after several years of writing off/on with no success, it wasn’t until I had been retired for about two years that I finally took the advice of another romance author I knew and wrote something for a younger audience which led me to write a MG/YA Paranormal Romance entitled, I Kissed a Ghost.

Q2) How long does it typically take you to write a book?

I Kissed a Ghost took me about 10 months to finish, which included several rounds of rereading, editing and rewrites.

Q3) What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

I’ve don’t follow any real schedule.

Q4) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I wouldn’t say it’s a quirk. All I need/want is not being disturbed anytime I’m in my writing mode.

Q5) How are your books published? (traditional, indie, etc.)

Besides having the book I’ve mentioned above I’ve self-published an anthology of Flash Fiction consisting of 100 Flash Fictions I’ve written, most of which are only five sentences and the longest of which is about 390 words. This endeavor is entitled “Micro Fiction – An Anthology.”

Q6) Where do you get your ideas for your books?

I’ve got no particular place I get my ideas from.

Q7) If you don’t mind sharing, when did you write your first book and how old were you?

The paperback edition of my first book was released in December of 2012 followed by the Kindle edition in May 2013. This happened when I’d been retired for about three years from my civil service job with New York City. My age at this time was about 62 years young.

Q8) What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Traveling with my dear , movies, old television programs from my younger days on cable and through NetFlix.

Q9) What is your favorite book?

I don’t really have any.

Q10) What do your family and friends think of your writing?

As long as I’m happy doing what I’m doing, my other half is happy as well.

Q11) What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?

That I was actually able to write a novel, which before had only been a dream.

Q12) What do you hate most about the writing process?

The multiple rewrites and self-editing I need to do before I’m happy with have I’ve produced.

Q13) How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I’ve already mentioned my two books.

Q14) Do you have any suggestions to help us become better writers? If so, what are they?

Never take any criticism from a fellow author as criticism from a fellow author. Take it as I do. Take it has a form of guidance/support.

Q15) Do you get feedback from your readers much? How and what kinds of things do they say?

Some of the feedback I get comes in the reviews. The book needs to have some additional editing. But the thing is, even books which are published through big publishing houses sometimes need to have additional editing done as well. No one is prefect, which is why pencils have erasers.

Q16) What is your preferred reading audience?

The age group the book has been written for.

Q17) What do you think makes a good story?

One in which holds a reader’s interest though all of if not most of the story line.

Q18) As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

A teacher.

Q19) Where can we find your books?

Here’s the link to both of my books on Amazon.com

Q20) Will you give us an excerpt from one of your favorite works?

As I wrote “I Kissed a Ghost” from time to time I would post an UNEDITED excerpt from it.  Here’s a link to all of the excerpts I had posted.
